Submitted by: Kammy Sanchez – EMAT621 Fall 2007
Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) Correlations: Math
M1M2. Students will develop an understanding of the
measurement of time.
a. Tell time to the nearest hour and
half hour and understand the movement of the minute hand and how it
relates to the hour hand.
Skill: Students will know how to tell time to the
hour and half hour.
Technology Strategies:
- The students will use the drawing software known as
Kid Pix to create a book or picture about a day in their life. The students
will use the time template program to show what they do during their day at
specific times. Kid Pix allows the students to draw as well as type. The
website to help with this is:
http://www.teachers.ash.org.au/jmresources/kidpix/time.html. For more
information about how to acquire Kid Pix software for your company visit
their website at:
http://www.learningcompany.com/.
- Students will use a digital camera to take pictures of
clocks that they see. The teacher can then gather all the pictures and make
a class book of clocks. The students have to label the correct time under
each picture they take. The students may take picture of digital or analog
clocks. The book then becomes a great resource for the teacher to use to
teach about different types of clocks. The teacher can also use this
assignment as a great assessment tool of the students. The teacher can make
a great game out of the pictures the students take. Please visit this
website and see slide 36 to see an example
http://www.escanabaschool.com/digital/digital_files/frame.htm.
- Students can go to the website Time for Time at
www.time-for time.com/lessons.htm and play a time review game. It has
telling time games as well as telling time interactive clock that the
students can use and manipulate. The website is a great resource for
teachers because it allows you to create your own telling time worksheets
and it has other great ideas to help you teach time. Another great website
for interactive games about time is
