Environmental Change
By K. Israel
Performance Task – GRASPS
Goal- You will learn about the effects that humans have on the environment
and ways that humans can change those effects.
Role – You will be a performer in a
commercial about a proposed change in the environment in Doraville.
Audience – Your audience is the citizens
of Doraville, GA.
Situation – The Doraville City Council is considering
developing a vacant lot that is currently filled with illegally dumped
garbage. The lot contains a creek and a
wildlife area that have been affected by the garbage. The proposed plan is to build a large office
building and parking deck that will eliminate the creek and wildlife area.
Product/Performance – You (as part of a group of four students)
will create a performance that demonstrates the effects of human development on
the environment, as well as the effects of human efforts to restore the
original environment. Your presentation will be in the form of a commercial and
will include at least two examples of how humans can cause environmental changes
and how humans can revive the environment to its original state. All groups will perform for the second grade
teachers and be videotaped. The winning
group will be chosen to show their videotape as a commercial for the Doraville
City Council.
