Performance Task - GRASPS

Goal - to produce a program that is a shopper's guide to the County Fair, complete with articles about your farm team and events leading up to Market Day, one feature article about an animal or crop that is special, an advertisement from a local store, pictures and captions, headlines, attractive format, completely revised and edited.  Students will publish and circulate these programs.

Role- You are a news reporter, journalist, and photographer.  You will gather information based on your farm experience, write articles, take pictures or find appropriate clip art, and compile these elements into an attractive program to drive traffic to your booth at the County Fair.

Audience- parents, friends, siblings, and other faculty will be given a program.  Based on their interests, and the information they find in their program, they have $10 to spend.  You want shoppers to spend their money and buy what your team is selling.

Situation- the annual County Fair is in town and it’s time to sell your animals and crops to make a profit.  You have worked very hard with your farm team to raise healthy animals and crops that are marketable.  Shoppers at the county fair are people who want to buy your goods in order to make products and sell them to the public.  What will you sell your animals for?  What are your crops worth?  You are trying to attract the most people to spend the most money at your booth.

Product/Performance- Based on your sales from Market Day, you will find the difference between your sales and your previous balance on your farm ledger.  The difference is your profit.  The biggest profit wins Market Day.  A follow-up article will be written as a team to submit to the local paper (a class wiki page) that will summarize the day's events.
