Submitted by: LaRita Parker

Date 7/7/08

Goal – You will identify pioneer, folktale, heroes and other vocabulary words associated with the American Folktale. The students will construct a classroom Big Book based on the goal objective.

Role –  You will be creators. You will make the recipe.

You will be observers. You will watch, record, and analyze the completion of activities.

You will be publishers. You will create the pages of the book.

Audience – You will be listening, observing, and participating in the activities.

Situation – Ms. Black’s first grade class doesn’t know anything about folktales. They have never read a book about folktales! We need a classroom book to identify the feat of the folktale heroes so that we can share with them.

Product/Performance – The students will design a Big Book to explain to the reader about American Tall Tales. The book will contain an engaging cover with title, characters and a setting. The students will collect pictures, vocabulary, and data to include in the contents of the Big Book. The students will use descriptive words and colorful illustrations. The student will provide a book that is neat, well organized, and free of spelling and punctuation errors.
