Performance Task – GRASPS

GOAL

Students should be able to purchase items needed, from the magic shop, to produce a magic show.  Their             problem/challenge will be knowing how much money they are starting out with, what they want to buy and understanding how much each item costs, determining if they have enough money for their items and finally purchasing their items using the correct amount of money, using the LEAST AMOUNT of coins and/or bills.

ROLE

The students are magicians who will be putting on a magic show. It is there job to determine what they would like to do in their act and what items they will need to buy to out on their show.

AUDIENCE

The teacher will be their audience when the student purchase their items and other students will be their audience when they present their show.

SITUATION

The students/magicians will have to first determine how much money they have to begin with.  Once at the store, they will have to record each item they would like to purchase and the price of that item. They will then have to add the amounts of all their items and determine if they have enough money to buy them all.  Once ready for purchase they will have to make the correct value amount, using the least amount of coins and bills, to buy their items.

PRODUCT/PERFORMANCE

The student will need to record the items they wish to purchase, with the product amount, on a record sheet.  They will have to add the prices of all of their desired items, showing their work, to determine if  they have enough money to buy what they would like. They will have to show their work on the record sheet. (Showing their work is desired for mastery confirmation of theory and procedure.)
