GRASPS Title: Kindergarten Social Studies American Symbols

Performance Task - GRASPS

 

Goal – The goal of this activity is for the students to participate in an imaginary field trip to visit the American symbols.  Each student will collect a souvenir (American symbol sticker) at each location.

Role – The student is the tourist who must collect a souvenir and place it on the Matching Activity Sheet next to who or what it represents.

Audience – The tour guide (teacher) will ensure that the student can name each American symbol and match the souvenir (sticker) to who or what it represents.

Situation – There are five American symbols:  The Statue of Liberty, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, White House, and the United States flag located at different stations around the classroom.  The student will go to each station and collect a souvenir.  At the last station, they will be given a Matching Activity Sheet.  The student will need to place each American symbol sticker next to who or what it represents.

Product/Performance – In the end, the student will have matched each American symbol to who or what it represents.

Standard/Criteria for Success – The teacher will check for accuracy on how well the student matched each American symbol to who or what it represents.
