Grade:  Kindergarten

Goal – You will determine great ways to enhance the school community by taking a proactive step to help keep the school building and grounds clean of all litter and trash.

Role – You will be a waste management team.  You will have plastic bags, latex gloves, and a badge that reads "Planet Protector”.  You will be in charge of cleaning all trash and litter that you find in and around the school.

Audience – The audience will be all students that witness you cleaning around the school.  This may include students from various grades, teachers, administration, and parents.

Situation – Mr. Miller is worried.  There is so much trash around the school and he doesn't know what to do about it.  If only there were some students who were responsible enough to help manage the trash at school.  He thinks that if one class will start this project, others will join in and it will help strengthen the school's community.

Mr. Miller's class will take on the job and do their best to be community helpers and also, to educate those who are interested in their task.

Product/Performance – You will pick up as much trash as you can and place it into the trash bags that have been provided.  At the end, the class will weigh their trash to see how much of a difference they made.  The teacher will then separate the students into 4-5 even groups and you will have an opportunity to make posters that educate others about what you did and the difference that one class made.  These posters will be used to inspire others in the school to keep their school community clean and safe for everyone.
