Government/ Civic Understandings

SSKCG1 The student will demonstrate an understanding of good citizenship.
a.
Explain how rules are made and why.
b. Explain why rules should be followed.

SSKCG2 The students will retell stories that illustrate positive character traits and will explain how people in the stories show the qualities of honesty, patriotism, loyalty, courtesy, respect, pride, self-control, moderation, and accomplishment.

Goal – Everyone will see and understand how important it is to be a good citizen and have positive character traits.  You will retell stories of people with these traits.

Role – You will be a character in a skit.  This skit is about people with good and bad traits.  Each person will be assigned a character in the skit and learn as much as possible about that person.  This research will be through the teacher’s aid, reading or watching movies.

Audience – At the conclusion of our studying of the characters and learning the skit, your parents will be invited to attend.  At the end of the skit each student will tell about their character and what makes it a bad or good person.

Situation – This skit will be about different situations that happen during the school day.  During a normal school day there are multiple situations for children to make good and bad choices.  Some characters will make the right choice and see the benefits.  At the same time other children will make the wrong choice and it will impact their friendships, as well as, other things.  The students will learn that being a bad citizen can give them a label they may not be happy with.  In the end all of the character will help each other to get back on the right track.

Product/Performance – You will perform this skit in front of your parents.  At the end each student will tell the audience about their character.  The students will tell what makes their character a good or bad one.  They will talk about their character traits, good or bad citizenship and what rules they followed or broke.  After talking about this subject the teacher will make sure the students feel comfortable and are able to talk about their character.
