Performance Task – GRASPS

Goal – You will identify at least two sources of energy from each of the three forms of energy- motion, light and heat.  These sources will be located in your home kitchen and will describe how they are used.

Role – You will be an inspector who works for the power company.  You are to document that all three forms of energy exist in a home’s kitchen and that there are at least two sources of each of those forms.

Audience – You will report your findings to a local newspaper on behalf of the power company.

Situation – A local reporter, Ida Nonothing, claims that most kitchens only contain heat energy and that there is only one source of heat energy in those kitchens.  Your job is to educate the reporter on the real facts of energy and the sources of each form of energy in kitchens.

Product/Performance – You will create poster with a chart listing the three forms of energy- motion, light and heat.  Under each heading, you will write the name of at least two sources of energy of that form and describe what it is used for that you have in your kitchen at home.  You can either draw a picture of the object where the source comes from, cut it out of a magazine or print it off the Internet.  You will present your poster to the class, as well as the reporter, Ida Nonothing, to educate everyone on what sources of energy are present in your kitchen.
