Performance Task Title: First Grade Social Studies Project on Lewis, Clark and Sacagawea

Submitted by: Jessica Nelson

Date: 10/08/08

Performance Task – GRASPS

Goal – You will find out what the major events were during Lewis, Clark and Sacagawea’s exploration and in what order they happened.

Role – You will be a Historian and a teacher.  You will listen and participate in the activities each day to gain the knowledge you need to complete a timeline.

Audience – Your audience will be your class and your parents – you will take your timeline home and teach them about the exploration.

Situation – Your parents have been out of school for many years and have forgotten who Lewis, Clark and Sacagawea are.  They recognize their names but they cannot remember why they are important to us.

Product Performance – You will write in your Social Studies journal after each day’s lesson and make a list of the important events that happened on Lewis, Clark and Sacagawea’s exploration.  On the last day you will put these events in order of how they happened on a timeline.  You will show a total of 3-5 events and illustrate and label each event and share your timeline with the class just as you would with your parents.  You will take the timeline home and “teach” your parents all that you learned while you explored Lewis, Clark and Sacagawea.
