Performance Task – GRASPS

Goal - Students will work in groups of 6, each student will receive a small (mini) pumpkin and an already created record book for them to record the height, weight, and circumference of their pumpkin in.  They will measure and weigh their pumpkins.  Next, they will compare and sort their pumpkins based on the height, weight, and circumference.  They will find out which pumpkin in their group is the heaviest, which is the tallest, and which has the largest circumference.

 

Role – You are all pumpkin farmers.  Your group will enter three pumpkins into the Pumpkin Contest at the local County Fair.  You must figure out which pumpkin is the heaviest, the tallest, and which pumpkin has the largest circumference.  You will compare and order the pumpkins based on height, weight, and circumference.  You will enter these three pumpkins into the contest. 

 

Audience – You will report all of your information to the Judge of the County Fair who will be visiting the class after all of the information has been recorded.

 

Situation – As farmer you will need to gather information about your pumpkin and record it into your record book.  You will measure height, weight, and find the circumference of your pumpkin.

 

Product/Performance – You will share the record book you have completed with information about your pumpkin and see how it compares to other classmates. You will work with your group members and share ideas and jobs.
