Grade: Fifth Grade Subject: Mathematics Topic: Measurement Submitted by Trevarous Guffie 11/17/2007 Performance Task – GRASPS Goal- You will find out how important it is to measure ingredients when cooking and/or baking. You will find out how the amounts of ingredients change when cooking for different amounts of people. Role- You will be a cook. You will prepare some cookies and punch for your fifth grade classmates. You will write down what ingredients you used and how much you used. You will then determine how much of each ingredient you would needed to feed 10 students, 20 students, and 30 students. Audience- You will be serving the cookies and punch to the class. Situation- The teacher is looking to increase parent involvement in the classroom. The teacher felt a good way to do this was to ask three parents judge the cookies and punch. Whichever group won the contest their dish or punch would serve to the entire class. Group#1 will prepare a punch to drink Group#2 will bake a batch of cookies Product / Performance- You will write down what ingredients you used. You will write down how much of each ingredient you used. You will work in groups to prepare the dish together. Each group member will be responsible for participating in the preparation of the dish. You will present your dish or punch to the parent volunteers to judge when finished. Show mathematical conversions for each ingredient when having to serve the same dish to 10 students, 20 students, and 30 students. Standard / Criteria for Success- see rubric
