Performance Task

 

Goal: Your task is to design a 4-page book for Kindergarten students that will teach them about nature.  You will write one sentence per page that describes/explains a nature topic.  Examples of nature topics are: bugs, birds, flowers, and other plants.  You will include a picture for each page showing what you have written.

 

Role: You are a Nature Educator at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.  You will share information about plants and animals with Kindergarten students and read your 4-page book. 

 

Audience: Your audience is a Kindergarten class.

 

Situation: The Atlanta Botanical Garden has sent you as a Nature Educator to help the Kindergarten class learn about plants and animals.

 

Product: Your product for this project is your nature book.  Your book should include one sentence per page.  Each sentence should show something that you know about nature from what we have learned in the unit.

 

Standard: You must use your phonics skills to write sentences about plants and animals based on the reading you have done in this unit.  You must use your phonics skills to read your book out loud to the Kindergarten class.  You must show the Kindergarten class how to use your before, during, and after reading strategies as well as connections and predictions.  You will also summarize the text for the Kindergarten class.
